My First Competition
Want to compete for the first time? In six steps you can prepare for your competition day – from choosing an event to your first attempt.
The competition announcement and the rules it names are always binding. Entry requirements, competition classes and fees may vary from event to event.
Step by step to your first competition
Find a competition
Check the competition calendar for a suitable date. See which disciplines and competition classes are offered and whether beginners can take part. If in doubt, the organiser will help you.
Clarify discipline & competition class
Choose a discipline and a weight that match your training level together with your coach or club. Competition duration, age and weight categories as well as entry requirements are listed in the competition announcement.
Register in good time
Use the event's registration link. Check the entry deadline, entry fee and payment method. Check the details you submitted and keep the confirmation.
Prepare for competition day
Allow enough time for travel, check-in, weigh-in, briefing and warm-up. Find out about permitted clothing and aids and bring the required documents.
Find your way on site
Report to the competition office. Check your competition class and start time and listen carefully during the briefing. Ask early if anything is unclear, and plan your warm-up according to the current schedule.
Enjoy your first competition
Pay attention to the commands and the judge's scoring. Lift in a controlled way and pace yourself. Your first competition is an opportunity to get to know the procedure and gain experience.
