On 5 July 2025, the Berlin Kettle Bears hosted the third Berlin Open with the support of the BVDKS. Around 50 athletes from Germany, Latvia, Ukraine and the Czech Republic registered for about 70 flights.
An open format for new and experienced lifters
On Saturday at 10 a.m., BVDKS President Vadim Sichwardt and Kettle Bears President Karsten Bollert opened the competition. Participants could freely choose kettlebell weights and time limits: from five minutes up to the half marathon. This made it easier to get started and gave experienced lifters the opportunity to try out new performance classes.
Inclusion athletes Jewgenij Seip and Jerry Berend delivered strong performances. Five children also competed.
Many hands behind the scenes
On Friday, the SJC Berlin-Buch youth club helped set up the hall. Kettlebells, platforms and other competition equipment had to be moved.
Eva Classen and Karsten Bollert ran the secretariat, and Olivia Rasigraf coordinated the judges. Günther Bauch hosted and even completed a half marathon himself in the penultimate flight. DJ Stefan C. Maus provided the music; food and drinks were also organised.
A joint finish
After the competition, participants met at a nearby pizzeria. Many also took the opportunity to explore Berlin.
The Berlin Kettle Bears would like to thank all athletes and volunteers and look forward to the next edition.
